It’s been a while since I started this blog and I guess it’s time for me to quote some of the Hostmonster customers’ feedback I got around the Internet (and in my inbox).

Positive feedbacks on Hostmonster

There are quite some good words I found on both hosting review websites and forums. Here’re some of them that I found useful and might be interesting to read. I have not had any problems. Help desk is actually helpful. They called promptly to verify my account. I was not there so I called back. I waited approximately 10 seconds before I got to an operator and it was done in under a minute.

Customer support was friendly from what I’ve seen. Also, my website loads faster than with many hosts I had the occasion of working on when working on web dev. contracts. cPanel is nice and I see no major feature missing. Good impressions.

Negative reviews on Hostmonster services

"Hostmonster sucks!"

Yeah, you’ll probably hear about this a lot when you’re searching reviews on Hostmonster. And yes, perhaps, Hostmonster really sucks! But hey, which web host doesn’t sucks? Try to search around for  negative reviews, you will notice that about every single web hosting service have complaints. From Lunarpages to Bluehost to Hostgator to 1 and 1 to…it’s not Hostmonster sucks, it’s EVERY HOSTING SUCKS!

Why am I telling you this?

When shopping for web host, you have to understand that Hostmonster, along with other host name mentioned, are big companies in hosting industry. For god’s sake they are hosting more than millions domain! Of course there are customers who are unpleased; of course they are customers who are pissed and release their hating words online.

The solution of all these is to test the host (that you are confidence in) by yourself. Watch out the hosting performance like a hawk at the first 30 days - if there’s anything fishy or something that you don’t like about, ask for a full refund and move on to others. Most reputable  hosting services have clearly-written refund policy - for example with Hostmonster, you get full-refund satisfaction guarantee for the first 30 days. Make use of your rights and find out the web host that suits you the best!

By the way, here’s a negative review on Hostmonster that I think it’s worth sharing.

Meg: Cheap Service - You Get What You Pay

HostMonster was cheap enough for me to use for my little hobby site. I was pleased by the thought of 24/7 support but in practice their tech support chat people were rude and not terribly helpful.

Conclusion: Is Hostmonster good?

My opinion? Yes, Hostmonster is highly recommended! After all, I’m having all the good experience by hosting with them.

Dealing with HostMonster Verification Department

You might need to deal with the Verification Department if you’re doing business with HostMonster for the first time. As you might already aware that my HostMonster account was mis-deactivated (Check my previous post on HostMonster’s over-sensitive scam alert) when I first sign up their hosting plan, you should be aware that HostMonster are VERY VERY serious in term of catching/avoiding scams. There are chances where you’re a normal honest customers but they are deacvitating your account due to the scams alert.

What to do if my HostMonster account is deactivated?

In case you’re one of the unfortunates that affected by this colletaral damage, do not panic.

The situation can be settled easily with just a single phone call or a few emails.

All you need to do is to contact HostMonster Abuse Department (which will then redirect you to the Verification Department) at 866-573-4678 or 801-494-8462 for non US customers for to verify some personal details. For cases where you could not get to them via phone, they can be reached http://helpdesk.hostmonster.com/.

Although having the needs to contact them in the Verification Department sounds troublesome. I found myself happy and satisfy with their service quality as one, the operator who answers the phone speaks English (English that’s understandable) well; and second, they are super efficient in dealing the matters. My problem is settled very soon and my account is re-activated back.

Another good thing that I see in this is that the company take serious steps in preventing scams as well as customer support; which in other way, telling me that they are serious with their business and clients. This gives me confidence in the safety of their website shopping system as well as customer supports.

Further Details

Basically till now, I am happy with most of the things at HostMonster. Server uptime scores a perfect ten; the order page (when I first subscribed) is smooth and secured; and I have definitely no complaints on the features covered in their hosting plan.

The only thing that I wish they were better is their customer supports. 

No doubt that HostMonster had been already doing a good job. They had their customer support team built in-house (but not sub the job to India ;) ); the guy who answered my phone is professional and friendly; the verification department answer my emails and solve my problems lighting fast.

However, as said previous, I am unhappy with their scam alert system and I believe something’s better can be done to avoid collateral damage to the customer experience with them.

Conclusion

All in all, I am glad that I picked HostMonster as my web host so far. They are definitely in my recommended web hosting list for my friends and family.
